The year saw 165 hacking incidents, with $2.3 billion stolen, marking a 40% increase from 2023's $1.69 billion. Despite the scale of the losses, $488.5 million was recovered. The rise in hacking activities coincided with Bitcoin's surge past $100,000, making centralized exchanges and custodians prime targets for cybercriminals.
