Since February 2025, cyberattacks targeting brokerage firms in Japan have resulted in unauthorized trades totaling approximately $710 million, involving a sophisticated pump-and-dump scheme on penny stocks. Separately, Sompo Japan Insurance announced on May 1 that a cyberattack on its outsourced service provider may have led to the leakage of around 75,000 customer records. Despite the potential data breach, there have been no confirmed cases of the leaked information being misused.
