In Japan, the operator of insurance agency 'Hoken Minaoshi Honpo' announced on April 30, 2025, that approximately 5.1 million personal records may have been leaked following a ransomware cyberattack. The leaked data is believed to include customer information. Sompo Japan, a major insurer, reported that about 75,000 customer records may have been compromised due to a cyberattack on its contractor, Gion. The leaked data reportedly includes customer names, and as of April 30, 2025, there have been no confirmed cases of misuse. In the United States, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission disclosed that a data breach now affects at least 94,000 recipients of state benefits, including SNAP recipients. The breach was linked to improper access by agency employees, leading to the termination of nine employees. The agency is offering two years of free credit monitoring to affected individuals. Additionally, VeriSource, whose parent company is VSI, confirmed that personal information of at least 4 million people was accessed during a February 2024 data breach. The compromised data includes names, addresses, dates of birth, gender, and Social Security numbers. VeriSource has notified affected individuals and is offering complimentary identity protection services.

VeriSource did not disclose how the cybercriminals were able to get into its systems or access the sensitive data, but state-mandated disclosure entries list the number of impacted individuals at 4 million. #cybersecurity #infosec #ITsecurity https://t.co/lVAVgPgYT9
