Hiroshima Prefectural Police on 22 August arrested Ken Mochida, 33, on suspicion of murdering his mother, Sumi Mochida, at the family’s home in Saeki Ward, Hiroshima City. According to investigators, the victim, 61, was found by her husband around 5:50 p.m. on 21 August lying in the living room with multiple stab wounds to her neck and head. She was taken to hospital but pronounced dead. Police allege that Ken Mochida stabbed his mother with a bladed object before leaving the house. When located and taken into custody, he declined to comment on the accusations. Authorities are examining the recovered weapon and seeking to establish a motive while continuing the investigation.
