Japan's top currency diplomat, Jun Mimura, has firmly denied a media report suggesting that U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed a preference for a stronger yen and weaker dollar during recent U.S.-Japan finance minister talks. Mimura described the report as 'completely untrue' and '100% untrue', stating that the U.S. did not discuss exchange-rate targets during the meeting. The denial came in response to a report by the Yomiuri Shimbun, which claimed Bessent had voiced support for a stronger yen. Both Mimura and Japanese Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato refuted the report, with Kato also using social media to clarify that no such discussions took place and no talks about FX targets were held.
