Japanese companies are facing mixed financial results amid global economic challenges. JERA, Japan's energy company, reported its annual profit halved due to weaker overseas business. Komatsu, a major construction equipment manufacturer, forecasts a 27% decline in profit for the fiscal year ending March 2026, impacted by U.S. tariffs imposed during the Trump administration and a stronger yen. Komatsu's operating profit is expected to fall to approximately 94 billion yen, and the company has approved a share buyback of up to 100 billion yen, representing 4.3% of its outstanding shares. Mitsubishi Electric anticipates a 9.7% increase in operating profit for the fiscal year ending March 2026, driven by strong infrastructure demand, and plans a share repurchase capped at 100 billion yen (2.89% of shares). Hitachi projects a 4.4% rise in net profit for the fiscal year ending March 2025, supported by AI demand, and has authorized a substantial share buyback of up to 300 billion yen (3.06% of shares). Socionext expects a 44% drop in operating profit for the fiscal year ending March 2026, influenced by a strong yen. Meanwhile, Porsche has downgraded its full-year profit outlook, citing U.S. auto tariffs and slower adoption of electric vehicles. The luxury carmaker now expects its operating return on sales (ROS) to decline to between 6.5% and 8.5%, down from a previous forecast of 10% to 12%, and anticipates a sales decrease of $2 billion or 5%. Porsche's EBITDA margin is projected to fall to 16.5% to 18.5%, compared to an earlier estimate of 19% to 21%. The company also announced a strategic realignment of its battery activities due to the slower ramp-up of electromobility.
