Nissan Motor Corporation has officially ended production of its iconic GT-R sports car after an 18-year run of the current generation, with the final unit completed at the Tochigi factory. The decision to cease production was driven by increasingly stringent environmental, safety regulations, and rising development costs, which made it economically unfeasible to continue manufacturing the model. The GT-R, first launched in 1969 and notably revitalized under former chairman Carlos Ghosn in 2007 with the sixth-generation R35 model, has been a symbol of Nissan's technological prowess and a popular high-performance vehicle worldwide. Nissan President Ivan Espinosa indicated that while production has stopped, the GT-R is expected to evolve and could return in the future. The company held a ceremony to mark the end of the assembly line for the GT-R, underscoring its 56-year legacy. Meanwhile, other Japanese automakers such as Toyota, Mitsubishi, and Daihatsu have recently introduced new models, including Toyota's new four-door sedan with 4WD options and improved fuel efficiency, Mitsubishi's second-generation compact SUV wagon Delica Mini, and Daihatsu's single-seater e-SNEAKER with rear-wheel drive and large tires. Toyota also launched updated minivans and sporty variants, reflecting ongoing innovation in the Japanese automotive market.
