Japanese medical device company Terumo Corporation has agreed to acquire OrganOx, a UK-based organ preservation technology firm and University of Oxford spinout, in a deal valued at approximately $1.5 billion (around £1.5 billion or 220 billion yen). OrganOx specializes in advanced organ preservation devices using Normothermic Machine Perfusion (NMP) technology, which extends the viability of organs by circulating oxygen and nutrient-rich solutions. This acquisition marks one of the largest medtech exits in the UK and represents Terumo's strategic move to enter the organ transplant market and drive its next phase of growth.
