The USD/JPY exchange rate experienced significant volatility over the course of two days. On October 1, the dollar/yen rate initially rose by 0.56% to a session high of 144.42 before surrendering gains and turning negative, down 0.03% at 143.565. The rate then reversed course, rising by 0.15% to 143.810 as Japan's Ishiba spoke. On October 2, the USD/JPY rate surged, rising by 1% to 145.01, then by 1.5% to 145.73, and finally by 2% to 146.44. The yen dropped 1.9% to 146.26 per dollar, marking its worst day since February 2023.
