For the past week, a fresh nightmare has been unfolding at Kwa Bi Nzaro in Kilifi County, eerily similar to the Shakahola massacre that led to the discovery of hundreds of bodies in a forest.
Authorities in Kilifi County, Kenya, have exhumed 32 bodies from shallow graves in Kwa Binzaro village amid ongoing investigations into deaths linked to a fasting cult. The recovery operation, which began earlier this month, has also uncovered 54 body parts scattered across the forested area. The exhumations have intensified over the past week, with multiple bodies and body parts being unearthed from several graves. Families from Busia County have identified some of the victims, though the whereabouts of certain relatives remain unknown. Investigators from the homicide unit and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are leading the probe, warning that the death toll may be higher than initially believed. The Kwa Binzaro case has drawn comparisons to the Shakahola massacre, where over 400 cult victims were previously discovered in a nearby forest. Fifteen suspects have been arrested to assist with the ongoing investigations.
