Peter Albert Ayiro, a long-serving teacher at Kenya’s Alliance Girls High School, has resigned after 26 years amid mounting accusations of sexual misconduct involving students. In a letter dated 17 August, Ayiro said “false accusations” and sustained public attacks had damaged his personal and professional life, prompting him to quit the Teachers Service Commission. Ayiro, who also served as the school’s Christian Union patron, enclosed a KSh 105,000 payment — one month’s salary in lieu of notice — and asked the commission for guidance on clearance procedures. His departure follows reports by investigative outlet Africa Uncensored that detailed accounts of grooming and sexual abuse at the prestigious boarding school. The Teachers Service Commission and other authorities are continuing investigations. Ayiro maintains his innocence, but the case has intensified scrutiny of safeguarding practices in Kenya’s top schools and sparked calls for stronger oversight of teachers accused of misconduct.
