Kenya is experiencing a surge in cyber threats, with reports indicating a staggering 840.9 million cyberthreats recorded over the past three months, marking a 27% increase in attacks. This alarming trend coincides with a rise in smartphone usage, which is believed to contribute to the vulnerabilities. Rights groups have raised concerns regarding a crackdown on digital freedoms in the country, emphasizing the need for stronger data security measures. In late January, Kenya faced a cyber attack attributed to the Moldovian hacker group B2Bhint, raising further alarms about the potential for sensitive data to be sold on the dark web. Authorities, including the Communications Authority of Kenya and the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, are being urged to enhance efforts to safeguard the digital security of citizens.

I call upon @CA_Kenya & @ODPC_KE to work harder towards safeguarding data security of Kenyans. This is a serious threat late January this year. Kenya suffered a cyber attack from a Moldovian hacker group (B2Bhint) & This data can be sold in the darkweb. https://t.co/3LW2jk2FFF
