Kenya has experienced a surge in road accident fatalities, with over 80 deaths reported in the past four days alone, according to Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir. A particularly tragic incident occurred on the Kisumu–Kakamega Highway near the Coptic roundabout, where a school bus accident claimed 27 lives. The village of Kotombo in Kisumu County is mourning 26 of the victims, with 22 bodies recently released from the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary and scheduled for a mass funeral in Nyakach. The Deputy Governor of Kisumu, Dr. Mathew Owili, has called for the redesign of the Coptic roundabout to prevent further accidents. Additional fatal accidents were reported in Makueni County, including four deaths along the Kibwezi-Kitui road, and two deaths along the Mai Mahiu road. In Kilifi County, four members of the same family who died in a road crash were recently buried. The government has pledged support to the affected communities and announced new measures aimed at curbing the rise in road accidents. The recent wave of accidents has raised concerns about road safety and the need for effective intervention strategies across Kenya.
