Kenya’s Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions on 28 August directed the prosecution of Bomet County Governor Hillary Barchok on allegations of conflict of interest and unlawful acquisition of public property. The DPP said Barchok will be charged alongside Evans Korir, a director of Chemasus Construction Ltd., which is alleged to have benefited improperly from county contracts. In a separate decision the same day, the DPP ordered the prosecution of former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati for alleged embezzlement of public funds through private companies. The twin actions add to a series of graft cases the agency is pursuing against current and former officials.
