Kenyan President William Ruto on 27 August vowed a sweeping crackdown on health-insurance fraud, saying individuals found to have siphoned money from the newly created Social Health Authority (SHA) will be arrested and prosecuted. Ruto added that so-called ghost hospitals and other facilities that lodged false claims under the former National Health Insurance Fund must refund the payments and will face additional surcharges. The president said the measures are intended to recover public funds and deter future abuses as Kenya transitions to the SHA system.
