Grieving families in Nyakach, Kisumu County, on Saturday laid to rest 22 relatives killed in last week’s bus crash at the Coptic roundabout on the Kisumu-Kakamega Road. Mourners filled the local school grounds for a joint funeral service before the coffins were taken to separate homesteads for burial. The 10 August accident claimed 27 lives when a passenger bus veered off the busy highway at a junction residents say has caused repeated fatalities. Opposition leader Raila Odinga and Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o attended the service, joining clerics and community leaders who urged the national and county governments to redesign the stretch and improve enforcement to stem further deaths.
