Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has lodged a formal petition with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) seeking to overturn or replay the 2024 African Nations Championship quarter-final between Kenya’s Harambee Stars and Madagascar. The complaint, filed on 25 August under Article 43 of the CAF Statute, alleges that match officials were “outrightly biased,” unlawfully disallowed two Kenyan goals without recourse to video assistant referee (VAR) review and failed to consult team captains or coaches. Through lawyer Arnold Oginga, Sonko requests that CAF nullify the decision to disallow the goals, annul the subsequent 4–3 penalty-shootout result and either award the victory to Kenya or order a full rematch. The petition also calls for disciplinary action against the referee and other officials for breaching CAF’s Code of Conduct. Kenya’s elimination at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani ended a surprise CHAN run that had raised domestic expectations. CAF has not yet responded publicly to the filing, and no timeline has been given for a ruling.
