BigHit Music on Monday unveiled Cortis, its first new boy band since Tomorrow X Together’s launch in 2019. The five-member act—Martin, James, Juhoon, Seonghyeon and Keonho—introduced itself at a Seoul media showcase with the digital single “What You Want,” a track that fuses 1960s psychedelic-rock guitar riffs with boom-bap hip-hop rhythms. The song serves as a prerelease from Cortis’s debut EP, “Color Outside the Lines,” scheduled for 8 September. The group said it culled the project’s material from more than 300 demos generated during a three-month songwriting camp in Los Angeles. Members emphasised a collaborative creative process and performed the single with treadmill-based choreography designed to highlight live vocals and agility. Cortis enters the market under the weight of comparison with labelmates BTS and TXT but aims to build what member Juhoon described as a “strong and distinct identity.” The group said its immediate goal is to introduce its music to a global audience while leveraging in-house production skills already used on songs for other Hybe artists.
