The K-pop girl group NewJeans, comprising Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, has escalated its legal battle with its agency, ADOR, by appointing Shin & Kim LLC as their legal representative. The group announced that they have no intention of returning to ADOR or its parent company, HYBE, citing a lack of trust. NewJeans accused ADOR and HYBE of failing to fulfill their responsibilities as an agency, and of engaging in harassment and attempts to sow discord among the members, including secretly meeting with some of their parents. The group has also initiated a contest for fans to suggest a temporary new group name, receiving over 50,000 comments within hours of the announcement, as they navigate the ongoing legal proceedings. ADOR has responded by warning that NewJeans' attempt to promote under a new name could constitute a severe breach of contract. NewJeans terminated their contract with ADOR on November 28, 2024, and have enlisted the law firm Sejong, which also represents former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin. ADOR and HYBE have appointed Kim & Chang as their legal representative, and NewJeans alleges that the agencies disguised their intent to suspend the group's careers indefinitely as a long-term break.
