A widespread 911 outage affected multiple states across the United States, including South Dakota, Nevada, Nebraska, Texas, and Florida. The outage, which impacted both landline and cellular calls to emergency services, was attributed to a cyber attack. This marks the second such incident in the last six months targeting the national 911 emergency services grid. Despite the disruptions, emergency texts and calls were still being received in some areas, and dispatchers worked diligently to manually process calls. Services were eventually restored, and investigations into the cyber attacks are ongoing.
Not all heroes wear capes; some wear headsets. I commend @LakeCoILSheriff 911 dispatcher Christy O’Dette, who showed true heroism by using her skills to save a life. Thank you for your bravery and dedication. https://t.co/ajOaPDcsoE
This week, #911dispatchers had to manually process calls amidst service interruptions. Reclassification is essential to give them the resources they need to support us. Read more about it from my interview with @SpectrumNewsDC https://t.co/PS2zgIA4Rv
