The Atlantic Coast Conference has released the full text of a 68-page settlement that ends 17 months of litigation with Florida State University and Clemson University and clarifies the financial framework governing any future departures from the league. Under the agreement, a school that leaves the ACC in the 2025-26 fiscal year would pay $165 million; the fee declines $18 million annually until it stabilises at $75 million from 2030-31 through the end of the league’s ESPN contract in 2036. Member institutions must now give notice of withdrawal by 1 June—more than two months earlier than the previous 15 August deadline—and departing schools retain their future television rights. The settlement introduces a new revenue-sharing formula that ties 60 percent of ACC media-rights money to television viewership, with three-quarters of that portion allocated on football ratings and one-quarter on men’s basketball. Clemson estimates the change could yield an additional $120 million for its athletics department over six years, helping narrow the financial gap with peers in the Big Ten and Southeastern conferences. A separate “option of limited withdrawal” allows at least six member schools to leave the conference in a single sport—most likely football—to join a so-called super league while remaining in the ACC for other sports. Such a move would cost each departing program the greater of $75 million or half of the current exit fee. The settlement, signed in May and followed by the dismissal of lawsuits last month, requires both FSU and Clemson to approve any future alterations to the league’s payout model, cementing the two flagship programs’ influence over ACC financial policy.
A whopping 60% of ACC TV money will now be distributed to schools based on their TV ratings. That is a whole lot. Along with a known cost to leave the conference, FSU and Clemson got a ton of out their fight in the end. Details from @MattBakerCFB: https://t.co/wkviUjEJi2
