Apple filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on 18 July accusing technology commentator Jon Prosser and video editor Michael Ramacciotti of stealing trade secrets tied to the upcoming iOS 26 software update. The company alleges the pair misappropriated confidential information and violated the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act after arranging access to a development iPhone that contained unreleased features, including the operating system’s “Liquid Glass” interface overhaul. According to the suit, Ramacciotti used the passcode of Apple engineer Ethan Lipnik—who has since been dismissed—to unlock the device and show Prosser its contents over a FaceTime call. Apple says Prosser recorded the session, recreated the interface in multiple YouTube videos published between January and April, and offered Ramacciotti compensation. The company learned of the breach from an anonymous email received on 4 April and claims additional undisclosed trade-secret material may still be in the defendants’ possession. Apple is seeking an injunction barring further disclosure as well as unspecified monetary damages. Prosser told Reuters he "certainly did not plot to steal information" and was unaware of how it had been obtained, adding that he looks forward to presenting his side in court. Ramacciotti has not commented publicly. Apple declined to elaborate beyond the allegations in its filing. The case marks the latest effort by Apple to curb leaks of unfinished products after a series of high-profile disclosures in recent years. In February the company settled a separate trade-secret lawsuit against former engineer Andy Aude, underscoring a broader push to tighten secrecy around forthcoming hardware and software.
