Apple has agreed to pay $95 million to settle a class action lawsuit, Lopez v. Apple Inc., concerning its Siri voice assistant. The lawsuit alleged that Siri-enabled devices, including iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, MacBooks, iMacs, HomePods, iPod touches, and Apple TVs, may have unintentionally recorded private conversations between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024. Apple has denied any wrongdoing but chose to settle to avoid further litigation. Eligible claimants are individuals in the United States or its territories who owned or purchased a Siri-enabled device during the relevant period and experienced unintended Siri activation during a confidential conversation. Notifications about eligibility have been sent via mail or email, but those who believe they are eligible may still file a claim. The deadline to file a claim is July 2, 2025. The settlement allocates up to $20 per Siri device, with a maximum of five devices per claimant, depending on the number of valid claims submitted. The final payout per device may vary. Attorneys have requested up to 30% of the settlement fund, up to $1.1 million for litigation expenses, and up to $10,000 for each main plaintiff. A final court approval hearing is scheduled for August 1, 2025. Apple has rolled out an iOS update that includes a security feature to lock out thieves from accessing Keychain passwords and data.
