Apple is concluding a $95 million class-action settlement related to allegations that its virtual assistant Siri was used to eavesdrop on conversations through devices equipped with the software. Individuals who owned or purchased Siri-enabled devices in the past decade have less than a month left to file claims to receive compensation. Meanwhile, BuzzFeed has been ordered by New York City authorities to pay back more than $45,000 in restitution to sixteen freelance workers who filed complaints for late payments between May 8, 2019, and August 15, 2024. The city’s Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is encouraging other freelancers with unpaid invoices to come forward and file claims within the 30-day deadline. New York City officials emphasized the importance of timely payments to freelancers and are holding BuzzFeed accountable for failing to meet this obligation.
