Law firm Boies Schiller Flexner is contesting allegations of litigation misconduct in a proposed class action lawsuit against United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM). The firm aims to counter UWM's attempt to dismiss the case and recover legal fees. The lawsuit claims that UWM colluded with brokers to impose costly mortgages on home buyers, resulting in billions of dollars in excess fees. In response to UWM's accusations of collusion with hedge fund Hunterbrook Capital, Boies Schiller asserted that no entity associated with Hunterbrook was financing the class action. The firm has urged a U.S. judge to reject UWM's request for sanctions, which is being represented by Jones Day.
