A U.S. appeals court has ruled that a federal ban on gun ownership by marijuana users is unconstitutional. The decision, made by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, concluded that marijuana users, like alcohol users, are of sound mind upon regaining sobriety and therefore should not be barred from owning firearms. This ruling emerged from a case involving a pot-smoking gun owner in Texas, who was previously prosecuted under the federal ban on users of illegal drugs owning firearms.
