JPMorgan Chase has agreed to pay $330 million (approximately 1.4 billion Malaysian ringgit) to the Malaysian government to settle all claims related to its involvement in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal. The settlement resolves allegations that JPMorgan facilitated transactions linked to the misappropriation of funds from the Malaysian sovereign wealth fund, one of the largest financial crimes of recent decades. Both parties confirmed the agreement on August 22, 2025. Meanwhile, Swiss bank J. Safra Sarasin was fined 3.5 million Swiss francs in an unrelated Petrobras corruption case, and HSBC was fined $4.2 million by Hong Kong regulators for failure to disclose investment banking ties in thousands of reports.
