SBI VC Trade, the cryptocurrency exchange arm of SBI Holdings, has finalized a deal to acquire the assets of DMM Bitcoin, which suffered a cyberattack in May 2024 that resulted in a loss of approximately $320 million. The acquisition includes DMM Bitcoin's customer accounts and custody assets, with the transfer scheduled for March 8, 2025. Customers of DMM Bitcoin will not need to create new accounts, as SBI VC Trade will manage the migration process automatically. This development follows a series of over 100 unauthorized access attempts prior to the hack, highlighting ongoing security concerns in the cryptocurrency sector.
