Futureverse, an AI and metaverse technology company, has acquired Candy Digital, a digital collectibles platform known for creating NFTs and digital assets for brands including Major League Baseball (MLB), DC Comics, Netflix, Getty Images, and WWE. The acquisition brings Candy Digital's portfolio of over 4 million digital collectibles and 1.5 million customer accounts into the Futureverse ecosystem. Candy Digital was founded in 2021 by Michael Rubin, Mike Novogratz, and Gary Vaynerchuk, and is backed by investors such as Galaxy Digital, ConsenSys Mesh, and Microsoft. Futureverse plans to integrate Candy Digital's intellectual property partnerships into its open metaverse infrastructure, using AI and blockchain technology to create immersive and interoperable fan experiences. Candy Digital's content library will be incorporated into The Root Network, Futureverse's layer-1 blockchain, to address intellectual property protection and digital ownership. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition comes amid waning interest in NFTs and digital collectibles, but Futureverse aims to use its technology to support new digital engagement between brands and fans.
