ArcelorMittal said a strong explosion struck its steelmaking complex in Lázaro Cárdenas, on Mexico’s Pacific coast, on Monday afternoon. The company reported no injuries among workers or contractors. Material damage is still being assessed and the cause of the blast is under investigation, the Luxembourg-based producer added in a statement. The Lázaro Cárdenas facilities form part of ArcelorMittal’s key operations in Mexico, which last year produced around 5 million tonnes of crude steel.
