The Fiscalía del Estado de México (FGJEM) has taken disciplinary action against public officials following the mishandling of a kidnapping case involving a boy named Fernando. The authorities acknowledged institutional delays and a lack of empathy and service in responding to the mother's complaint, which was initially filed on July 31 but not formally accepted until August 4. One public servant was dismissed for referring the boy's mother to another Justice Center, and an investigation is ongoing to determine if additional officials failed to properly address the complaint. Fernando was reportedly killed by alleged loan sharks. Separately, the Secretariado Ejecutivo del Sistema Nacional de Seguridad Pública (SESNP) reported 394 feminicides in Mexico from January to July 2025, with the State of Mexico, Morelos, and Mexico City having the highest rates. Additionally, Omar “N,” head of Financial Services at the Tribunal de Justicia Administrativa of the State of Mexico, was detained for suspected abuse of trust related to an attempt to misappropriate 32.5 million pesos. Human rights groups have also raised concerns about violence against families searching for missing persons, noting over 30 killings since 2011 of those investigating their relatives' whereabouts.
