Google is leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance its scam protection capabilities across its platforms, including Chrome, Search, and Android. According to a Google blog post, AI has enabled the company to identify 20 times more scam-related results in Search. A forthcoming version of Chrome, scheduled for release this month, will incorporate Gemini Nano AI technology to help the browser block scams commonly presented as intrusive pop-up ads. This development aims to protect users from online fraud and scams, which are increasingly sophisticated, with cybercriminals now using AI-generated deepfake identities to commit banking fraud in regions such as Mexico. Additionally, AI deepfakes have been reported to promote fraudulent sexual cure products, further highlighting the growing misuse of AI technologies by scammers.
