Grupo Coppel, Mexico’s largest privately held retailer, has restructured its senior leadership by naming Diego Coppel Sullivan as chief executive while retaining his uncle, Agustín Coppel Luken, as chairman of the board. The move marks the first time the family-controlled company separates the roles of chairman and CEO since Agustín Coppel assumed both posts in 2008. Diego Coppel will oversee the group’s core businesses—including its nationwide department-store chain, BanCoppel bank and Afore Coppel pension fund—effective immediately. A business-administration graduate who joined the company in 2010, he most recently served as chief marketing officer after leading several commercial and digital units. Management said the governance overhaul is intended to sharpen execution as the group accelerates a previously announced MXN 80 billion (about US$4.3 billion) five-year investment program. Funds are earmarked for expanding physical stores, modernising logistics and doubling the share of e-commerce to roughly 20 % of total sales.
