A police officer from Mexico City’s Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC-CDMX) was arrested on Wednesday after fatally shooting 21-year-old motorcyclist Cristofer Huerta during a street altercation in the Jardín Balbuena neighbourhood of the Venustiano Carranza borough. According to an SSC briefing and video recordings of the incident, the officer fired his service weapon while pinned to the ground in a struggle that began when Huerta and another rider resisted a routine stop on Avenida Galindo y Villa near Fray Servando Teresa de Mier. Huerta was struck in the head and died shortly after being taken to Hospital General Balbuena. The SSC opened homicide case CI-FIEDH/2/UI-1 C/D/00322/08-2025 and launched a parallel internal-affairs probe. SSC chief Pablo Vázquez said the force is cooperating with the capital’s prosecutor’s office and pledged “strict adherence to human-rights principles” as investigators determine the detained officer’s legal status.
