The Mexican Secretariat of the Interior (SEGOB) received 76 applications for the position of head of the National Search Commission. After an initial review, 27 candidates were deemed to meet the legal requirements and will be publicly interviewed between August 31 and September 9. The final report with the most suitable profiles will be submitted to President Claudia Sheinbaum on September 10. Meanwhile, the new Judicial Discipline Tribunal of Mexico City is being formed with profiles close to Sheinbaum and Adán Augusto, with Nicolás Jerónimo Alejo, a former agent involved in the Ayotzinapa case from Tabasco, receiving the highest votes. The judicial election has faced criticism, including from the Mexican Bar Association, which questioned the credibility of the process due to the use of accordion voting. Magistrate Felipe de la Mata has proposed validating the election results, dismissing objections from former candidate Verónica Patricia Gómez Schulz as unfounded. However, concerns remain about the integrity of the process, with Marlene Mizrahi noting that the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary (TEPJF) validated the judicial election despite evidence of vote inducement, low participation, and statistical anomalies, potentially compromising Mexico's democratic integrity.
