Mexico’s consumer watchdog, the Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor, said its latest nationwide price survey shows a wide spread in the cost of secondary-school uniforms as families prepare for the 2025 school year. Presenting the figures during the president’s daily morning briefing, Profeco head Iván Escalante Ruiz reported that a full uniform can cost anywhere between 206 and 969 pesos, based on monitoring of 689 products. For girls, the range runs from 206 to 774 pesos, while boys’ outfits are typically more expensive, topping out at 969 pesos. Escalante urged parents to compare prices and take advantage of Profeco’s ‘Ferias de Regreso a Clases,’ which run through 31 August and are intended to offer lower-cost supplies, uniforms and backpacks. Profeco’s weekly monitoring of other consumer staples found that the standard basic-food basket averages 910 pesos nationwide, with the lowest price—756.80 pesos—registered at a retailer in Campeche. The agency also highlighted fuel costs, identifying a service station in Zapopan, Jalisco, as offering the most competitive regular gasoline price at 23.16 pesos per litre under the federal plan to stabilise pump prices.
