Shakira opened the second leg of her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” world tour at Mexico City’s GNP Seguros Stadium on 26 August, performing before about 60,000 fans. Promoter OCESA said the Colombian star is booked for 12 concerts at the venue, surpassing Grupo Firme’s previous record of nine shows and making her the first artist to schedule a dozen nights at the stadium formerly known as Foro Sol. The 30-song set mixed hits from her 30-year catalogue with new material and tweaks for Mexican audiences. Shakira added the long-absent ballad “Día de Enero,” delivered an acoustic “Antología” dedicated to the country that first embraced her, and brought out Mexican pop singer Danna to duet on “Soltera,” marking the tour’s first female guest spot. A mariachi segment featuring “Sombras” honored her father, William Mebarak, and underscored the local flavor of the show. The singer returns to the GNP stage on 27, 29 and 30 August before additional Mexican dates through mid-September. The record-breaking Mexico City stand continues a lucrative global run for Shakira, whose tour has already posted some of the highest grosses of the year.
