An intense storm struck Querétaro, Mexico, on the night of August 22, 2025, resulting in the deaths of three women and widespread flooding. The heavy rains caused inundations in several municipalities of Querétaro and Morelos, affecting approximately 1,200 homes, with 280 reported as severely damaged. The flooding led to the overflow of rivers, streams, and drainage channels, trapping motorists and passengers in their vehicles. In response, the municipal government of Querétaro declared a hydrometeorological emergency in three municipalities, including the capital. Local authorities, including Governor Mauricio Kuri and Querétaro Mayor Felipe Fernando Macías, initiated the distribution of direct financial aid and essential supplies to affected families, particularly in the municipality of El Marqués. Governor Kuri also announced plans to request federal funds to address the extensive damage. Additionally, Querétaro was among 14 Mexican states that experienced an increase in unemployment rates compared to the previous year. The storm also caused disruptions in Morelos, including the cancellation of a concert in Cuernavaca due to flooding.
