UNRWA Warns of Hunger, Gaza Humanitarian Collapse; Criticizes Israeli-American Aid, Highlights Risks to Women, Children, and UN Presence

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has highlighted the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, where Palestinian families are facing systematic destruction and widespread hunger despite some aid being allowed in. UNRWA attributes part of the famine crisis to attempts to replace its aid system with the politically motivated Gaza Foundation, criticizing the Israeli-American aid system for causing chaos and death. The agency calls for a return to a unified UN-led coordination and distribution system based on international humanitarian law. Reports indicate that over one million women and girls in Gaza are at risk of mass starvation and face life-threatening dangers while seeking food. Medical personnel and officials describe severe psychological and physical impacts on children, including targeted injuries and trauma from ongoing Israeli military actions. UNRWA has also stated that UN organizations will not withdraw from Gaza despite Israeli military plans. The humanitarian collapse is underscored by families mourning loved ones killed in airstrikes and struggling to feed their starved children amid unsafe access routes and deteriorating conditions.
