The United States has ordered the immediate withdrawal of all troops from Iraq’s Ain al-Asad Air Base in Anbar province and Camp Victoria near Baghdad, according to political sources cited by Sky News Arabia. Washington informed Iraqi officials that it will expedite the pull-out and no longer adhere to the timetable set in the bilateral Strategic Framework Agreement, the sources said. U.S. personnel have begun relocating to Erbil in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region and to an undisclosed neighboring Arab state, the same sources reported. Financial-news service FirstSquawk said transfers were already under way on 24 August. Flight activity over the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility also intensified, with multiple KC-135 Stratotankers from the 91st Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron conducting in-flight refueling operations, indicating heightened operational tempo as the withdrawal proceeds.
