The Los Angeles Dodgers used consecutive power-filled victories to vault into sole possession of first place in the National League West, trimming their division magic number to 29. On Sunday in San Diego, Freddie Freeman homered twice and Shohei Ohtani launched his league-leading 45th shot of the season as the Dodgers routed the Padres 8–2. Rookie catcher Dalton Rushing added a blast of his own, while Yoshinobu Yamamoto scattered four hits over six innings for his 11th win, improving to 11-8. The result pulled Los Angeles into a tie atop the division. Back at Dodger Stadium on Monday, rookie outfielder Andy Pages answered with two home runs and Emmet Sheehan struck out 10 over seven shutout frames in a 7–0 victory against the Cincinnati Reds. Mookie Betts punctuated the night with a highlight-reel catch and a solo homer. Although Ohtani went hitless, the back-to-back wins gave the Dodgers sole control of the NL West.
