Major League Baseball has suspended Seattle Mariners outfielder Victor Robles for 10 games after he threw his bat toward Las Vegas Aviators pitcher Joey Estes during a Triple-A game at LV Ballpark on 17 August. The incident occurred while Robles was on a rehab assignment with the Tacoma Rainiers and followed his being hit by a pitch for the fourth time in five games. Robles, 28, has appealed the punishment, seeking a reduction. Because the suspension must be served at the major-league level, the Mariners will be forced to play one man short once he is reinstated from the injured list. The outfielder, sidelined since 6 April with a dislocated shoulder, has apologized for the outburst.
