Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s “The Bad Guys 2” collected an estimated $10.4 million in North America over the weekend, a 53% slide from its debut frame, lifting domestic earnings to $43.4 million. Overseas receipts of $9.3 million put the sequel’s global haul at $84 million—roughly on par with its reported $80 million production budget—raising questions about prospects for a planned trilogy. Also from Universal, “Jurassic World Rebirth” added $4.7 million domestically and $16.1 million abroad, including a $7.5 million launch in Japan. The dinosaur franchise’s latest instalment now stands at $473.2 million in international ticket sales and $799.98 million worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing film released this summer after Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch.” Warner Bros.’ “Superman” generated $7.8 million in its fifth North-American weekend, pushing domestic takings to $331.2 million and eclipsing 2016’s “Batman v Superman” to become the top-grossing Superman title at home. With an additional $5.8 million overseas, the James Gunn-directed reboot has reached $578.8 million globally ahead of its planned digital release on Aug. 26. Among other releases, Paramount’s reboot of “The Naked Gun” opened to $8.38 million, Angel Studios’ “Sketch” drew $2.53 million for a five-day domestic total of $5.02 million, and NEON’s relationship drama “Together” earned $2.60 million to reach $17.21 million domestically.
