The Beatles will re-launch their landmark “Anthology” project this autumn with restored and expanded releases across video, audio and print. Apple Corps said the original eight-part television series, first broadcast in 1995, has been remastered and enlarged with a new, ninth episode featuring previously unseen behind-the-scenes footage of Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr working on the project in 1994-95. The updated documentary, produced by Apple Corps in collaboration with filmmaker Peter Jackson’s Wingnut Films and Park Road Post, and featuring fresh audio mixes by Giles Martin, will stream exclusively on Disney+ beginning 26 November. Three episodes will debut that day, with the remainder following weekly. Alongside the series, the group will issue an expanded music collection on 21 November. Branded “Anthology 4,” the set adds 13 unreleased demos and session tracks to the original albums, bringing the total to 191 songs across 12 vinyl LPs and eight CDs. It also includes new mixes of the mid-1990s singles “Free as a Bird” and “Real Love,” updated by original producer Jeff Lynne using de-mixed John Lennon vocals, and incorporates the 2023 single “Now and Then.” A 25th-anniversary paperback edition of the 368-page “The Beatles Anthology” book will precede the audio releases on 14 October. Pre-orders for all formats are now open through the band’s official channels.
