A star-studded benefit dubbed “Band Together Texas” raised more than $8.5 million on Sunday night to support victims of the catastrophic July flooding in the Texas Hill Country. The nearly sold-out show at Austin’s Moody Center was spearheaded by country stars Miranda Lambert and Parker McCollum, with proceeds earmarked for the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country and the Central Texas Community Foundation. Lambert, McCollum, Kelly Clarkson, Cody Johnson, Ronnie Dunn, Lukas Nelson and other Texas artists performed, while actor Matthew McConaughey opened the evening with remarks urging continued support for survivors. Highlights included Johnson’s acoustic rendition of “How Great Thou Art” and a duet of “Waltz Across Texas” by Nelson and Pat Green. Flash floods over the July 4 weekend sent the Guadalupe River surging, claiming more than 130 lives—many in Kerr County— and destroying homes and businesses across the region. Organisers said donations are still being accepted as communities face a long rebuild.
