Southern New England is experiencing an unseasonably cool stretch, with coastal temperatures capped in the 60° F range and inland highs in the low- to mid-70s, conditions more typical of mid-September than August. The National Weather Service in Boston warns that Hurricane Erin, forecast to pass more than 300 miles southeast of the region early Friday, will generate rough surf and life-threatening rip currents beginning Tuesday and persisting through the end of the week. While most of the storm’s rain is expected to stay offshore, a frontal boundary could bring showers on Wednesday, with pockets of steadier rainfall exceeding 1 inch likely across parts of Connecticut. Drier, warmer weather is projected to return over the weekend, with highs rebounding into the 80s.
TUESDAY AM weather update ⤵️ Partly sunny ⛅️ and cool today 70-75° ROUGH SURF and a rip current risk at the beaches thru the end of the week from Hurricane #Erin passing well offshore #WCVB https://t.co/SURiqALVmP
NEXT 7 DAYS... Cooler than average for August thru the end of the week. A few showers Wednesday. Rough surf and a rip current risk at the beaches as hurricane #Erin makes it's closest pass 300miles+ offshore Friday AM. Summer feel with 80s returning this weekend #WCVB https://t.co/qlE0ZNMXOD
WEDNESDAY... Brings the best chance of rain this week- but it looks more showery with steadier rain tracking just to our south. Potential for 1"+ where it's steadiest right now that looks to set up over CT closer to a front. Timing looks to focus on midday-afternoon #WCVB https://t.co/uDBmIpaRDh
