Hawaii's Kilauea volcano resumed its eruptive activity on July 9, 2025, marking the 28th episode of lava fountaining since December 2024. The eruption featured lava fountains reaching heights of approximately 1,200 feet (about 365 meters), according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The fountaining lasted for around nine hours, with volcanic ash, pumice, and Pele's hair being emitted and blown south-southwest of the vent. The event attracted significant observation and footage, including close helicopter flybys near the lava fountains. This eruption continues the ongoing summit activity at Kilauea, one of the world's most active volcanoes.
