A brief landspout tornado touched down in Franktown, an unincorporated community in Douglas County, Colorado, on Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service confirmed. The vortex, which lasted roughly 90 seconds, tore roofs from three businesses at a shopping center near the intersection of Colorado Highways 83 and 86 and caused other minor structural damage. No injuries were reported. Authorities from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Franktown Fire District cordoned off the area while continuing damage assessments and urged the public to avoid the site. The weather service said the parent storm produced wind gusts of up to 50 mph and nickel-size hail as it moved northeast along the Interstate-25 corridor, but it assessed the overall severe-weather threat as low.
