The New York City Police Department evacuated parts of Times Square on Monday after officers received a 10:30 a.m. ET 911 call reporting a suspicious cylindrical object left outside the NYPD’s precinct at West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue. Police blocked Seventh Avenue between 42nd and 44th Streets, cleared surrounding sidewalks and urged the public to avoid the area while the bomb squad, K-9 teams and other emergency units examined the item. Subway service through the busy commercial hub continued without interruption. By early afternoon, the bomb squad declared the package non-hazardous and reopened the district to pedestrians and traffic, officials said. No injuries or arrests were reported, and detectives are reviewing surveillance footage to determine who left the object and whether it was intended to cause alarm.
