New Zealand recorded a merchandise trade surplus of NZ$142 million in June, reversing course from the revised NZ$1.24 billion surplus logged in May, according to preliminary government data released Tuesday. Exports fell to NZ$6.63 billion from NZ$7.68 billion the previous month, led by a broad pullback across major categories. Imports edged up to NZ$6.49 billion from NZ$6.44 billion, narrowing the monthly surplus. On a 12-month rolling basis, the trade deficit widened to NZ$4.37 billion from NZ$3.79 billion, underscoring continued external-balance pressures despite the smaller June surplus.
